Medieval Imagination: Mixed-Media Prints, Punctum Caecum series, 2014-2017

Medieval and Early Modern Middle East scientific manuscripts were composed of hand-drawn images, diagrams, and geometrical shapes as well as textual and mathematical explanations. Each page of these manuscripts often separated images and texts through both structured compositions and random layouts. Inspired by images, colors, content and compositions of medieval scientific manuscripts, I create silkscreen mixed-media prints. In my botanical prints I present medieval medicinal plants in rows to impart the idea of a garden or in my medieval map inspired works, I screen print and paint various textural images, referencing earth texture map and celestial bodies. The prints also include original images and texts from the pages of the manuscripts.
