(Political) Love Letters, 2007
(Political) Love Letters series, 2007, draws inspiration from letters that the families of Iranian dissidents send to political authorities seeking mercy or furlough for loved ones. The prints consist of hand-drawn individual forms, dots and lines that are derived from Persian Nastali’q scripts, creating illegible columns and paragraphs. The illegible marks are etched one by one on the plates and then printed on paper. The illegibility of text in the (Political) Love Letters series is a metaphor for the fact that these letters are often ignored or discounted, rendering the message immaterial.
